Biblical Discipline
at RLHC

At RLHC, we believe discipline should be guided by Scripture and administered in a way that reflects God's love and grace. The following biblical principles are foundational for parents and staff in partnership.

What Biblical Discipline Looks Like at RLHC

  • Discipline is motivated by and carried out in love (Proverbs 3:12, 13:24; Hebrews 12:6).
  • Discipline is effective for those who receive it with wisdom (Proverbs 17:10).
  • Discipline often involves mild rebuke (Proverbs 29:15).
  • Discipline may include restitution and/or apologies, both public and private (Matthew 5:23-24).
  • True discipline leads to repentance, restoration, and forgiveness (2 Corinthians 2:6-8; Matthew 18:15).

Discipline at RLHC considers both the nature of the offense and the student’s attitude. There are two levels of disciplinary action:

Classroom Level

Most discipline is handled within the classroom through gentle verbal correction and redirection to maintain a respectful and orderly learning environment. The ultimate goal is restoration and healing, focusing on heart change rather than mere behavior correction. RLHRC encourages parents to actively support and participate in their child’s training using godly discipline rooted in love, guidance, and biblical principles.

  • Clearly post and communicate classroom rules and consequences to students and parents.
  • Use proactive discipline strategies, such as positive reinforcement, structured routines, and conflict resolution techniques to guide students toward self-discipline.
  • Encourage student responsibility in conflict resolution, promoting apology, forgiveness, and reconciliation when necessary.
  • Public humiliation, ridicule, or any form of shaming is never an appropriate or acceptable method of correction.
  • Partner with parents by keeping them informed of repeated infractions and working together to support the child’s growth.

Through prayer, guidance, and loving correction, students will be encouraged to develop Christ-like character, learning how to respect authority, take responsibility for their actions, and seek peace with others.

Office Visits

Certain behaviors will automatically result in disciplinary action from the Director:

  • Disrespect toward a staff member or peer, whether through words, actions, or attitude. The staff member will determine if disrespect has occurred and may address it or refer the student to the Director. (Exodus 20:12; Proverbs 6:16-17; Romans 13:1,7)
  • Dishonesty, including lying, cheating, forgery, or stealing. (Exodus 20:15-16; Proverbs 6:16-17, 19)
  • Rebellion, which includes active or passive defiance of authority or instructions. (Colossians 3:20; 1 Samuel 15:23)
  • Physical harm or intent to harm another student, such as fighting, shoving, or tripping. (James 4:1; 1 Corinthians 13:5)
  • Obscene, vulgar, profane, or malicious language or behavior, including swearing, using the Lord’s name in vain, name-calling, or inappropriate jokes. (Exodus 20:7; Ephesians 4:29-31, 5:4)

Disciplinary Action

Academic Mentors and staff may implement the following measures to address student behavior:

Students will receive warnings and private discussions when they violate rules. If the inappropriate behavior persists after a warning, further disciplinary action will be taken, and parents may be notified at the teacher’s discretion. Students who refuse to comply with authority or disciplinary actions will be sent home and may not return until they demonstrate a willingness to comply.

In exceptional cases, the administration reserves the right to assign consequences that may differ from the standard disciplinary responses to an infraction.

Disciplinary actions are determined based on the specific circumstances of each situation, considering the wide range of possible infractions. These measures are rooted in strong student-academic mentor relationships and are carried out in a way that upholds the student’s value, affirms their dignity, directs them to the gospel, and encourages forgiveness and reconciliation. Academic mentors will communicate instances of misconduct to parents through ClassReach.

NO school staff member or representative will administer corporal punishment as a form of discipline.

All disciplinary measures, including returning signed discipline notices and serving suspensions, must be completed before a student can advance to the next grade level.

Rooted Learning Homeschool  Center reserves the right to suspend or expel a student for misconduct or inappropriate behavior, whether occurring on or off campus (school sponsored activities).

In cases of serious, urgent, or potentially dangerous disciplinary matters, a resource center administrator or staff member will personally intervene, and parents will always be notified. The administrative staff has broad authority to act in such cases, including suspending the student from school activities.

The school reserves the right to question students (without parental presence) if they are suspected of or witness to a disciplinary infraction. Additionally, in cases of serious offenses, the school is legally obligated to report incidents to the appropriate authorities and may pursue legal action if necessary.
